Candela - Silver Skates #11

Candela (Silver Skates, #11)Candela by J.R. Thorn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So, if you've been following the Silver Springs books, you know the town goes to great lengths to make sure that the humans remain unaware of the supernatural aspects of town. Ever wonder what happens when the ward doesn't work as it should?

Candela is human, but she sees things round town that she knows she shouldn't. And when she goes skating, things only get weirder!

I loved the descriptions from Shane, her human mate's perspective, about how the ward felt, as well as Candela's pretence that it was working. Her other 2 mates are a fire fae, who's investigating the magically caused fires round town, and a very protective shifter.

I really loved this book, and although I don't normally read a lot of academy RH, I think I'm going to have to go back and check out the author's Elemental Fae Academy: The Complete Trilogy as well.

The Spiritus Dagger - The Edge of Magic #1

The Spiritus DaggerThe Spiritus Dagger by Allie Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

New series, new author and a great start - I only wish it was a little longer!

When her father is attacked and gravely wounded, Maise discovers she's the chosen one, prophesised to save their world. All she has to do is find the titular dagger, and her circle of men, and kill the bad guy. Easy!

Although the series is planned as reverse harem, she only meets one mate in this book. Instant attraction and instant acceptance, which makes me think that she'll have a harder time with the rest!

The book sets up the next one, without being too much of a cliff hanger, but I'm looking forward top following along on their journey!

Hard Rock Desires - Until We Break #1

Hard Rock Desires (Until We Break Book 1)Hard Rock Desires by Athena Wright
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yes! More rock star romance from Athena Wright!

I will admit to being slightly nervous about this series - remember they kids from the community centre in the Feral Silence and Darkest Days books? Yeah, this is them, all grown up! However, given these books are written in such a way that they're not tied to any specific location or year, the time jump isn't weird or jarring. It also means that we skip the up and coming band years, and go straight to when they're successful.

Zain is your typical arrogant bad boy rocker, who falls for Grace, one of the few non fans of the band at the gig. Both have baggage to deal with, but you know you're getting a happy ever after at the end!

I'm not sure how many books are planned for this series, but I reckon at least one romance will come from within the band!

Peppermint - Silver Springs #10

Peppermint (Silver Skates, #10)Peppermint by Cali Mann
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another fun Silver Skates book - how can we be up to #10 already!?

Pepper is a cardinal shifter, who has popped up already in other books delivering mail. One trip to the ice rink later, she realises her mates are 3 big, burly vikings, who are trapped in the underworld. What follows is a fun caper, as she tries to figure out how to break the curse and get them out of there. I love how her personality rubs off on them, and vice versa, giving them all growth through the story.

I want more stories about how these guys settle into the modern world, now!

Rise of the Sphinx - Box Set

Rise of the Sphinx (Completed Series)Rise of the Sphinx by J. Kearston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I missed these books first time round, so the box set release seemed like a good time to catch up.

What a roller coaster of a tale!

Raina starts out as a widowed single mother, and over the course of the three books discovers that pretty much everything she thought she knew - about herself, her daughter and about the world - is wrong.

There's a great mix of different mythologies, mostly Egyptian and Greek, and a lot of twists and turns. Binging it meant I didn't have the suspense of the cliff-hangers at the end of each book, but I can imagine the impact of having to wait.

I enjoyed this, and I believe the author has more books in the same universe, which I@m looking forward to checking out.

Outcast - Pack Prophecy #1

Outcast (The Pack Prophecy, #1)Outcast by R.L. Caulder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a solid start to a new series, and I'm intrigued to see where it goes.

There's a sense immediately that the characters, situations and relationships have been strongly developed in the past, and we are joining the story as things are about to change. As a result, their historical relationships are largely broad outlines rather than details until it's relevant, and the focus is on how the new set up develops.

I figured out what the twist was before it happened, but the how was still unexpected, and I can't wait to see how THAT cliffhanger turns out!

Forged from the Ashes - Wings of War #1

Forged from the Ashes (Wings of War, #1)Forged from the Ashes by J. Kearston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A dystopian world filled with dragon shifters is a little off my normal fare, but I really enjoyed this.

Ezra, the heroine, is no wilting wallflower, and is more than a match for the men in her life, including her 3 mates and her 4 brothers.

Although the book works as a stand alone, there's a lot of world building to up the rest of the series mixed in with a lot of action.

Looking forward to the next one!

Frostine - Silver Skates #9

Frostine (Silver Skates, #9)Frostine by J.E. Cluney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The latest Silver Skates book introduces Frostine, a moon kitsune shifter, who has been running from her destiny - until it lands on her doorstep looking for her.

This was a fun book, with the conflict coming not from whether or not the characters would accept the mate bond, but whether or not pack tradition would allow them to, which give a different twist. I also enjoyed seeing how a different author wrote about kitsunes, following EmberEmber earlier in the series, and the differences and similarities between them.

Cider - Silver Skates #8

Cider (Silver Skates, #8)Cider by Aspen Black
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As with all Silver Springs books, this can be read as a stand-alone, however there's a lot of cross over between Cider and Eirlys, the previous book, so it's worth reading that first, partly to understand the relationship between the two ladies, and partly because they are each related to one of the other's mates.

As always, this was a fun romp. It had a semi serious thread, with big corp trying to take over the small businesses around the ice rink, but it was dealt with in a fun way, and of course, there's a happy every after.

As a side character, I love Igor, who first appeared in Iris, Aspen Black's first Silver Springs books, and popped up again in Eirlys.

I can't believe we're half way through this series already, I'm loving them!

Eirlys - Silver Skates #7

Eirlys (Silver Skates, #7)Eirlys by Jenn D. Young
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Following a would-be fatal car accident, where Eirlys was saved by a vampire who turned her, she has been living happily in Silver Springs. Life is looking up, she has her own business at the skating rink, a new apartment, and an incubus best friend she's secretly in love with. Oh, and a prank level rivalry with another coffee shop.

This is one of the hottest Silver Springs books yet. There's a fair amount of MM action, as all her mates are as into each other as they are her. Although it can be read as a stand alone, as can each of the Silver Springs heroines, it has a lot of connections with Cider, the following book, and the two work well together.
