Untamed - House of Berserkers #1

Untamed (House of Berserkers, #1; Wicked Reform School)Untamed by Lacey Carter Andersen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One thing I love about Lacey Carter Andersen's books is that she doesn't stick with the normal vampire, wolf shifter and demon paranormals. Sure, they'll show up, but she looks at a much wider range of creatures!

This book is no different, with the FMC being a rare female berserker, and her harem another berserker, a dragon shifter and Adam, a "mutant" - quite what he is and how he came to be is only touched upon and I hope is covered in more detail in later books!

I don't read a lot of academy books, but the Wicked Reform School is more of a prison than a school and the characters are mid 20s.

It's an action packed story, with a few twists and a cliffhanger - thankfully the next book is out already, I'm a bit behind on my TBR list, so I'll be starting that next! Looking forward to reading more and Keira and her guys and also looking into the rest of the Wicked Reform School universe.

Wild Heart - Real Wolves Bite #2

Wild HeartWild Heart by C.R. Jane
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this!

It picks up exactly where the first book left off with *that* cliffhanger! To be fair, we still don't have an answer to that mystery by the end of this book, either, just more questions!

You see all 3 main characters grow over the course of the book, especially Rune and Daxon, although Wilder gets his moments too.

The particular lore of shifters in this series is a little different from other books I've read, and I think that's part of the key - both to my enjoyment and to the overall plot.

And yes, we have another cliffhanger of course! Can't wait til the next book is out!

Rejected Mate - Feral Shifters#1

Rejected Mate (Feral Shifters, #1)Rejected Mate by Callie Rose
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a spin off from Callie Rose's Claimed by Wolves series. You don't need to have read that first, but it's worth it!

Amora met her fated mate a few years ago, but he ran out on her after one passionate night. A message from a witch during the battle at the end of the previous series sent her on a mission to find not just him, but her other 2 mates.

Amora is a tough cookie, and her mates are the kind of guys you both love and hate at the same time! The book is action packed, but as you might expect if you read any of the author's other books, it ends on a BIG cliffhanger!

This is a slightly different take on fated mates, and I'm curious to see how it goes from Rejected Mate to the inevitable HEA by the end of the series!

All Hallows' Grove - De Danann #0.5

All Hallows' Grove (De Danann)All Hallows' Grove by S.C. Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having just started the De Danann series, I was delighted to discover there was also a prequel novella set immediately before Runes of Destiny.

This is a quick, fun read which gives a little slice of life for VI and Aleric, and ends with the return of Gabriel. It sets up their relationships and the atmosphere in Druid's Hollow perfectly.

Aurora - Silver Skates #14

Aurora (Silver Skates, #14)Aurora by M.J. Marstens
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've read all the Silver Springs books to date, and some of my favourites are those showing how humans fit into this wonderful supernatural community. The majority of them, like Iclyn, the previous book in the series, are happily oblivious. Aurora, on the other hand, is what happens when a very logical and scientific mind goes digging into what's happening in this quaint, happy town!

Aurora's reactions are wholly believable as she starts to realise the town's secret, and her mates are fun, quirky and honestly exactly who she needs in her life.

One particular plot line is tied up a little too quickly for me - I wanted to know more about what his motivations were, I guess - but it didn't detract from the story overall.

I've loved the Silver Skates season, I can't believe we've only got one book left this time round! I'm looking forward to that, future seasons from Silver Springs, and all the spin off coming out this year!

Runes of Time - De Danann #2

Runes of TimeRunes of Time by S.C. Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This picks up immediately where Runes of Destiny leaves off, putting us straight into the action. While that first book had a lot of world building, this one is far more story driven.

VI and her guys find themselves transported to a past version of Druid's Grove, to learn more about the prophecy and the history of their community. They also find the rest of their circle, and learn a lot about each other and their personal histories.

Like the first book, it's a fun, quick read, and while I'd love it to be longer, it's also just the right length for the tale it tells.

It finishes on a similar cliffhanger, so I'm guessing that may be a theme for the series, and I'm looking forward to seeing where - and when - they end up next!

Crescent Moon Manor - The Elemental Touch #1

Crescent Moon Manor (The Elemental Touch, #1)Crescent Moon Manor by Kat Blak
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is something a little different in terms of shifters.

Mysa is a down on her luck single mom to Ryssa, trying to find a job and a home. She lucks out when she gets offered the live in cleaner's job at Crescent Manor, which is owned by four hot guys. She and Ryssa both feel instantly connected to the guys, and what follows is a tale of self discovery.

While some actions early on don't always seem to make the most at the time, in light of the reveal at the end things start to fall into place - and will probably make even more sense as the cliffhanger gets resolved in book 2!

Forged in Fear - Wings of War #2

Forged in Fear (Wings of War #2)Forged in Fear by J. Kearston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Although this book picks up where Forged from the Ashes finishes, it can be read as a stand alone. Reading Ashes first will add a lot of background, and depth to some of the running jokes - and it's a great book - but you can dive straight into Forged in Fear without missing any plot points.

Saige has been experimented on and tortured by dragons, and is recovering with the help of the Veles triplets - Ezra's brothers from the first book. As a result, we have a FMC who's a really tough cookie, but most people treat like she's made of glass while she deals with the lasting impact of the experiments and what they mean for both her and the greater dragon population.

Overall, it's a fun story, and I'd love to see more of this world in the future.

Blood Debt - Kingdom of Blood #1

Blood Debt (Kingdom of Blood Book 1)Blood Debt by Callie Rose
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in a new series by Callie Rose and is focused on vampires.

Mikka is a hunter whose brother sells himself to the vampires she's spent her life killing. So, what does she do? Follows him into the nest by selling herself as well, with plans to rescue him.

What follows is a tale where she discovered that almost nothing and no one is quite what it seems.

It's set up as reverse harem, but is slow burn, and ends on a cliffhanger.

I liked Mikka, she was though when she needed to be, but started to learn a lot about herself as well when faced with the fact that a lot of what she knew was wrong. The men she's destined to be with are all very different from each other. This compliments her well, although as I said, it's slow burn, so she's not in a relationship with any of them by the end of this book, far from it!

Looking forward to seeing where this goes next!

Iclyn - Silver Skates #13

Iclyn (Silver Skates, #13)Iclyn by Melissa Adams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One thing that makes Melissa Adams' Silver Springs novels stand out is that her characters are wholly human. It's fun seeing how they react to the magic in Silver Springs, even when they don't know it.

One example here is the spelled skates - anyone who's read the rest of the Silver Skates season knows that all the skates are spelled to fit whoever wears them, so it was good to see how it was explained away to a human!

Iclyn is at rock bottom, having lost her boyfriend and her job, so has returned home to nurse her wounds. Erik, meanwhile, has traveled to Silver Springs to find the required royal bride.

It's a sweet, and very funny tale, and of course, they all lived happily ever after!

Runes of Destiny - De Dannan #1

Runes of Destiny (De Danann Series Book 1)Runes of Destiny by S.C. Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a fun book, and a great start to a new series. The writing is very chatty, giving a good familiarity to the characters and settings.

The world building is solid; it's set in a world like ours, but where supernatural creatures are known about. Specifically, we're in a small town in the Pacific Northwest which is predominantly supes, with a few humans.

Viola, the FMC had her world turned upside down a couple of years previously, and now that she's starting to get back to normal, everything changes again. I like her as a character, she's tough and her reactions are understandable. The series is a slow burn, so we've only met 3 of her harem so far, but again they're likable characters and suit her.

The book does end on a cliff hanger, and I can't wait to see where it goes next!

Misty - Silver Skates #12

Misty (Silver Skates, #12)Misty by Tabitha Barret
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We met Misty - Grey - in Dahlia and while both books are stand alone, it's worth reading Dahlia first, as she and her mates pop up as supporting characters here.

Misty and her brother ran away from their old pack, and kept running. She's made sure not to have any emotional ties she might regret having to leave behind. Until her past catches up with her.

Misty is a fun character - she's got a tough shell, but there's a vulnerability that she doesn't want to admit to. Her mates are also an interesting mix, but all give her what she needs. I also enjoyed catching up with characters introduced in Dahlia, some of which are settled, but there's a couple I'd love to see get their own tales, too.

When Darkness Calls - Hades Redemption #1

When Darkness Calls (Hades Redemption, #1)When Darkness Calls by C.R. Jane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoy books that put a new twist on old stories, whether it's fairy tales or, as in this case, myths and legends.

This is a new take on the tale of Hades and Persephone and what happened next. The characters are a little different to what you'd expect from the myths, which keeps you guessing.

It does feel a little like it doesn't know if it wants to be M/F or RH, although the author's note at the end also acknowledges this and why.

Destined to Lead - Shifting Society #3

Destined to Lead (A Shifting Society, #3)Destined to Lead by Sterling Thomas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wren has grown up knowing what life has in store for her. She's being groomed to take over the pack beta role, and is set to mate her childhood best friend.

Political machinations between packs lead to her mate-to-be rejecting her, and her banishment from the pack.

What follows is a journey - physical and emotional - of self discovery, where she finds her fated mates, and accepts her past and future.

I liked Wren as a character, a good balance between confident and vulnerable, and her mates were her perfect match.

This is part of a shared universe, although each book is stand alone, and I love the cameos from other characters! I can't wait to read more in this world.
